Animal Control, Trapping and Exclusion Services in Kingwood

Why You Need Animal Control, Trapping & Exclusion

In Kingwood, TX, there are a variety of native animals that can become troublesome pests to your home or business. Some of these include raccoons, rodents (mice and rats), skunks, opossums, birds, bats, and armadillos. While most of these animals are not typically aggressive, they can cause significant damage to your property if left unchecked. Raccoons, in particular, can be aggressive if threatened and are well-known for their ability to rip open roofs and siding to gain access to attics and crawl spaces. This can lead to serious structural damage, as well as the contamination of your food and water sources with droppings, which can spread diseases. Bats, raccoons, and skunks are the leading wild reservoirs of rabies in the Kingwood, Texas area.

Why You Should Not Do Animal Control, Trapping & Exclusion Yourself

Although it may be tempting to try to handle the removal of nuisance animals yourself, it’s important to remember these animals can be dangerous. The process of safely removing an animal from your property is often more complicated than it seems, as a caged or trapped animal can become extremely agitated and aggressive. If you attempt to trap and remove an animal on your own, you run the risk of seriously injuring yourself and exposing yourself or your family to diseases such as rabies, Lyme disease or even Leprosy.

Understanding Professional Animal Control, Removal Services in Kingwood, TX

For many of us, the idea of animal trapping may bring to mind images of early American pioneers setting snares to catch dinner. These methods, while certainly interesting, are not what professional animal removal experts do today. In fact, the process of animal trapping and removal has changed quite a bit over the years, and Gulf Coast Exterminators has been a leading provider of animal removal services for homes and businesses in Kingwood, Texas for three decades.

Gone are the days of dangerous animal traps that can harm both people and animals. Instead, we use sophisticated equipment and techniques to safely remove pests from your property. We offer animal trapping services that are humane and follow all local, state, and federal laws. Where euthanasia may be necessary, as prescribed by law to prevent the spread of disease, we adhere to all Federal, State, and Local regulations and observe the highest standards of animal welfare.

Understanding Professional Animal Control, Exclusion Services in Kingwood, TX

In addition to animal trapping and removal, Gulf Coast Exterminators also specializes in exclusion services. This process is vital to keeping animals from returning to your property once they have been removed. We will conduct a thorough inspection of your property, identify entry points that pests may be using, and seal them off to ensure your home or business remains animal-free. Techniques for exclusion vary depending on the type of animal but may include things like caulking cracks, installing screens, and covering vents.

Exclusion of Raccoons

Raccoons can tear through roofing, siding, and drywall. Raccoon exclusion can involve patching your roof and installing metal flashing where holes have been left as a result of their presence. While Gulf Coast Exterminators won’t perform cosmetic home repairs we can make functional repairs in the form of unwanted animal exclusions. Our Licensed Technicians can make suggestions for your handyman or repair contractor for larger repairs than the required Exclusion repairs.

Exclusion of Rats and Mice

Rats and mice are one of the most common pests that we deal with at Gulf Coast Exterminators. These animals can squeeze through tiny cracks and holes to enter your home or business in search of food and shelter. To prevent rats and mice from returning, we can seal off entry points that they may be using with hardware cloth, caulk, or other strong materials. We can also recommend changes to your property, such as removing food sources and clutter, that can make it less attractive to these pests.

Video: Rat Infestation

Exclusion of Opossum

Opossums are another animal that we frequently remove and provide exclusion services for. These animals usually enter homes through holes in the roof or gaps in the foundation. To keep them out, we will seal off any entry points with hardware cloth or caulk. They will also burrow under decks or porches, which would require a trenching and burial technique to keep them out.

Gulf Coast Exterminators performs reasonably priced & highly effective pest control exclusion In Kingwood & surrounding areas to prevent nuisance animals from entering your home like in the video below.

Exclusion of Squirrels

Squirrels are another common pest found in Kingwood, Texas. These animals are known for their chewing habits and can cause extensive damage to your home or business if they gain access. They are commonly found around the roofline of a property, and exclusion may require the repair of any damage that they have caused as well as the installation of hardware cloth at soft entry points. We recommend hiring an electrician once the Exclusion is completed to inspect for chewed wiring as squirrels are a leading cause for electrical fires.

Exclusion of Skunks

Skunks are known for their ability to spray a foul-smelling liquid as a form of self-defense. They can cause property damage in search of food and shelter and may also dig holes on your property. They are often found living under decks, porches, and sheds. To prevent skunks from returning, it may be necessary to employ a trench and burial technique around the perimeter of your deck with wire or other durable material.

What is Pest Control Exclusion?

If you have ever had an issue with rodents, birds, or bats getting inside your home, you may have been told that you need exclusion pest control. So, what exactly is an exclusion in regards to pest control?

An exclusion is the process of locating entry points for many different size pests and then sealing, or excluding, the property to prevent re-entry.

Pest Control Exclusion by our Technican Victor of Gulf Coast Exterminators

Pest Control Exclusion by our Technican Victor of Gulf Coast Exterminators

What Kind of Pests Are Exclusions Typically Used For?

Exclusions are used for anything from raccoons, skunks, birds, bats, rodents, and even snakes.

It may sound simple, but it usually takes an experienced technician several hours to properly seal the average property. Of course, every property is different and the number of entry points, and the time it will take to properly exclude, will differ for each.

Is Pest Control Exclusion Necessary?

Is exclusion necessary? The short answer is YES!

If you have a breach where critters are traveling in and out of your home at will, you have a long-term problem. We have seen many situations where people have opted for the simple fix of trapping or baits only. This is a temporary fix. You may eliminate the current uninvited occupant(s), but each season the problem can re-occur. Your home has been identified as a warm and safe place by these pests, and new generations will continue to attempt to dwell there.

There are multiple types of exclusions depending on the pest that you are trying to prevent entering your home. Each type of pest (rats, mice, squirrels, opossums, raccoons, birds, bats) requires different size entry points and prefers different entry locations on the home.

Most people are unaware that rodents can climb straight up the brick on the side of their home, so excluding entry points that are low to the ground may be only half of the required exclusion.

An exclusion is usually completed with a variety of materials from expanding foam to copper mesh. Our expert exclusion technicians are excellent at making sure the work will look clean and professional. In most situations, unless you know what you are looking for, the evidence of the exclusion cannot be seen.

Before you can exclude your home, let your pest control exclusion technician go through the process of removing the uninvited guest. You don’t want to trap a raccoon in your attic! Rodents can do a lot of damage to your home if they become desperate to escape.

Each species is going to require a different amount of time and techniques to remove them. Trust our pest control exclusion technicians and trust our process.

Once the home has been excluded, we will provide an annual warranty for the work our exclusion technician has provided. Each year we will come inspect and repair any areas that may be potential breaches in your exclusion.

Your Atascocita home protects you and your family. It keeps you safe from the elements. It keeps you warm in the winter and cool and comfortable in the summer. VIDEO: Termite Information and Facts

Pest Control Houston Gulf Coast Exterminators shares invaluable information on termites in the video below.

Termites are small insects that live on cellulose. Cellulose is the main component of wood, which may make up your floors, walls, and support beams. It may be in the siding of your home. But don’t think that just because the exterior of your home is made from brick or stone that termites aren’t a problem. Even if the outside of your home isn’t made of wood, your floors and walls may be. And termites will get into stone and brick homes to get at it.

Signs That There Is a Termite Infestation in your Atascocita Home

Termites are small, measuring only about ¼ to ½ an inch in length. They also hide very well. It can be very difficult to detect termites unless you’re really trying to seek them out. There are several signs that can point to a termite infestation.

These signs of a termite infestation include:

Damage to your home. Termites destroy wood to get to the cellulose contained within. This can cause serious damage. You may notice that once solid wooden structures sound hollow when you knock on them. You might also notice sagging floors, ceilings or walls.

Termite Removal Control Company Gulf Coast Exterminators Effectively Removes Termites in Atascocita

Gulf Coast Exterminators removes termites of all types that invade your home or business effectively and cost-effectively similar to those shown in video below.

Mud tubes provide a path from the underground colony to your home and can be found on the exterior of your house, or in a crawl space or basement. Mud tubes may be active, but they may also be abandoned. Don’t assume that because a tube is abandoned that you don’t have a problem. Abandoned tubes can mean that termites have moved on to another area of your home.

Termite Video: Signs Of Termites, Termite Mud Tubes

In this video below, you will see that signs of termites are indicated by mud tubes.

Discarded wings at entry points to your home can indicate the presence of termites. In the spring, termites swarm in which some of the worker termites in a colony molt and develop wings. These termites then head off in search of a new home. Check around all entry points for wings. Pay attention to their size. Termites have 4 wings that are all the same size.

Lastly, actually seeing a termite. Seeing a termite with your own eyes is a really good indication of an infestation. Termites can go unnoticed for years. One can indicate thousands more. Even if you see just one termite, it’s time to call us and schedule a free termite inspection.

Why Do It Yourself Termite Control Doesn’t Work

You may have noticed that there are all kinds of DIY termite control tips online. You may have also noticed numerous chemicals for sale at retail stores. While these treatments may be tempting, avoid them at all costs. Do-it-yourself termite control just doesn’t work. There are several reasons why do-it-yourself termite control fails.

Why You Need Termite Control for your Piney Point Village Home

Your home is your shelter. It protects you from the elements, providing a safe and comfortable place for you and your family to reside. In order for your home to protect you, however, you also have to protect it. There are many issues that can affect your home, including tiny little insects called termites.

VIDEO: Termite Information and Facts

Pest Control Houston Gulf Coast Exterminators shares invaluable information on termites in the video below.

Termites eat cellulose. This is the building block of wood. In order to get at their food source, termites destroy wood in the process. This includes wood in your walls, floors, ceilings, and support beams. And don’t think that just because your home is made from stone or bricks that you can’t get a termite infestation. Termites can infest these homes as well in search of any wood.

Termite Pest Control Company Gulf Coast Exterminators Effectively Removes Termites in Houston

Gulf Coast Exterminators is the top termite control company in Houston! Our termite control methods safely and effectively remove termite infestations like as shown in video below.

As termites slowly destroy your home, its structural integrity becomes compromised. Parts of your home could collapse, causing significant, expensive damage. Termites cause about $5 billion worth of damage in the US every year. In addition to affecting the structure of your home, termites affect the value of your home. If you’re in the process of buying or selling, a termite inspection is a must have to determine the condition of the house and if treatment is necessary. Regular termite inspections are also incredibly important. Termites can go undetected for years. With regular termite inspections, you can detect the presence of them and get treatment before the termites are able to cause too much damage.

Signs That There Is a Termite Infestation in your Piney Point Village Home

Termites are incredibly small, and incredibly difficult to detect, unless you’re actively looking for them. There are, however, a few signs that can indicate their presence. One sign of termites is damage to your home. Knock on solid wooden structures, such as walls and support beams. If they sound hollow, it could indicate an infestation. You may also begin to notice that you have sagging floors, walls or ceilings.

Termite Removal Control Company Gulf Coast Exterminators Effectively Removes Termites in Houston

Gulf Coast Exterminators removes termites of all types that invade your home or business effectively and cost-effectively similar to those shown in video below.

Mud tubes are a good indication of termites. Termites create these tubes as a way to get from their main colony underground into your home. If you break open a tube, you may notice termites, or you might find nothing. Even empty mud tubes shouldn’t be ignored.

Termite Video: Signs Of Termites, Termite Mud Tubes

In this video below, you will see that signs of termites are indicated by mud tubes.

Discarded wings at entry points to your home can point toward termites. Termites swarm in the spring. Some worker termites molt, developing wings, and fly off in search of a new home to begin a new colony. When they find a suitable location, they shed their wings and move in. Termites and flying ants can look similar, so check the size of the wings. Each has four wings. Termite wings are all the same size, however, while flying ant wings are two different sizes.

Finally, seeing a termite can be a very good indication of an infestation. Don’t assume that seeing only one means that it’s not a big deal. Termites can go years without being readily noticed. Even if you see only one, schedule a termite inspection right away.

Why Do It Yourself Termite Control Doesn’t Work

You’ve probably seen all kinds of do-It-yourself termite suggestions online or gone to the store to pick up over the counter termite control. Unfortunately, do-It-yourself termite control won’t fix the problem of infestations. There are several reasons why DIY termite control fails.

  • You don’t know the species of your termite. There are several species of termites. If you don’t know the species, you might get the wrong type. As a result, you may end up spending more on over the counter products than on professional treatment
  • You don’t reach the termite colony. If you can’t get to the colony itself, there’s a good chance the infestation can return
  • You don’t apply termite treatments correctly. Improper application means that your termite treatment won’t be effective. It can also pose serious risks for children and pets. That’s why it is recommended that you contact a licensed professional for inspection & treatment such as Houston Termite Control experts Gulf Coast Exterminators

If you suspect that your Piney Point Village home has a termite infestation, do not try to handle the infestation yourself. Spider Removal Control Company Gulf Coast Exterminators Effectively Removes Spiders in Houston

Gulf Coast Exterminators removes spiders of all types that invade your home or business effectively and cost-effectively similar to those shown in video below.

Why You Need Spider Control for your Afton Oaks Home

Spiders are viewed as beneficial since they eat a variety of other pests, such as ants and lice. However, venomous spiders can cause grievous harm or death when they bite a human.

Spider webs entrap insects so spiders can incapacitate and devour them. However, insects can be a disease vector, infecting you and the other residents. And spider webs that are especially large or thick can be a fire hazard when they are near any source of sparks or other ignition.

Some spiders such as wolf spiders can create burrows in your lawn and garden, which they use for shelter and trapping prey. And whereas spiders in your home do not harm your home’s structure, the insects and pests that they eat – such as carpenter ants, termites, and rodents – can damage your home or business.

Spider Pest Control Company Gulf Coast Exterminators Effectively Removes Spiders in Houston

Gulf Coast Exterminators is the top spider control company in Houston! Our Spider pest control methods safely and effectively remove spider infestations which can cause discomfort and injury like as shown in video below.

Some species of spiders, such as the black widow and the brown recluse, have venom powerful enough to sicken or kill humans. If you see a venomous spider, do not try to make contact with it or entrap it. Call Gulf Coast Exterminators right away and let us deal with the venomous spiders. And call 911 or head to the nearest emergency room if a venomous spider bites you.

Signs That There Is a Spider Infestation in your Afton Oaks Home

The most obvious sign of a spider infestation in your Afton Oaks home is the presence of spider webs. Exercise caution when dealing with spider webs, as insects trapped on the webs can pass diseases on to you. And never touch any spider web that has an asymmetric or chaotic pattern. Venomous spiders weave webs with no symmetry, and they may bite in response to you trying to remove their webs. Call Gulf Coast Exterminators when you see spider webs in your home or vegetation, especially when the webs indicate the presence of venomous spiders.

Spiders prefer to live in small, dark spaces. Routinely check attics, basements, and other rooms that are dark for extended periods of time. Use caution when working near cracks, small holes, or similar openings into which a spider can easily fit. And take note of any new cracks or similar damage, as those may be caused by spiders burrowing into your residence.

The presence of spider egg sacs is a dire sign of a spider infestation. One spider egg sac can hatch hundreds of baby spiders.

Watch Video on Black Widow Spider Egg Sacs Opening

Gulf Coast Exterminators Spider extermination methods safely and effectively remove spider egg sacs similar to those shown in video below.

Contact Gulf Coast Exterminators immediately as soon as you spot a spider egg sac. If you are capable of carefully removing the spider egg sac from your home, you should do so. Place the spider egg sac in a garbage bag, seal the bag, and move the bag as far from your residence as reasonably possible. Never apply any pressure to a spider egg sac or squeeze it, as this will cause hundreds of baby spiders to emerge from the spider egg sac.

If you find that your body has unexplained sores or bite marks, the cause could be spider bites. Whereas spiders are generally non-aggressive towards humans, spiders do bite when they’re cornered or startled. A spider hiding in a garment of clothing such as a shoe will bite when you try to wear the garment. When mysterious bite marks cause severe side-effects such as dizziness or extreme pain, call 911 or head to the nearest emergency room. Otherwise, call Houston spider exterminator experts at Gulf Coast Exterminators to schedule an inspection, and check garments and other items that you place on your body for the presence of spiders.

How We Get Rid of Spiders in Afton Oaks Homes

Once we arrive at your Afton Oaks residence or business, our top priority will be to thoroughly inspect the building and the surrounding area. We will search the outside vegetation – such as hedges and trees – for signs of spiders.

Pest Control Houston company Gulf Coast Exterminators

We will analyze the building’s exterior and interior for cracks, unsealed windows, and other methods spiders use to enter your building. After the analysis is complete, we will eliminate the spiders. We use pesticides, but we are careful to apply it in ways that will not endanger you or the other building residents.

After we have removed the spiders, we will provide you with the results of our inspection, explaining how the spiders accessed your property and measures you can take to prevent future spider infestations. Frequently, measures such as repairing property damage such as cracks, trimming trees and hedges, and removing spiders’ food sources by having other pests removed will forestall or prevent another spider infestation.

Why Do It Yourself Spider Control Doesn’t Work

Do-it-yourself spider control measures do not address the root problems of spider infestations, and improper use of do-it-yourself spider control measures can endanger you and the other residents of your Afton Oaks building.

Trying to physically relocate a spider outside is a temporary solution, as the spider will return to your building, especially if there are insects inside your home for the spider to eat. Moving spiders can also be dangerous or lethal when the spider’s venom is potent enough to be a threat to humans.

Applying essential oils as traps will fail since spiders will swiftly adapt to avoid the oils. Using chemicals and pesticides without the assistance of a professional can lead to serious illness or death to you and the other residents in the building.

And do-it-yourself measures focus only on visible spiders and not the hundreds of spiders lurking in hidden areas such as behind walls and beneath floors.

If you spot spiders, spider webs, or spider egg sacs in your Afton Oaks home, call Gulf Coast Exterminators as soon as possible. Our team of dedicated Houston spider exterminator experts will resolve your spider infestation and give you the knowledge to prevent spiders from accessing your building again.

Spider Removal Control Company Gulf Coast Exterminators Effectively Removes Spiders in Houston

Gulf Coast Exterminators removes spiders of all types that invade your home or business effectively and cost-effectively similar to those shown in video below.

Why You Need Spider Control for your Clear Lake City Home

It is true that spiders eat a variety of pests that would otherwise harm your building or your health. However, spiders themselves are capable of harming you with a venomous bite.

Spiders that spin webs in your house can trap insects that can spread disease to you and the other building residences. Also, especially-thick webs can be a fire hazard if they hang near a source of ignition.

Spiders in your lawn and garden – such as wolf spiders – can dig burrows and tunnels in soil and trees. Whereas spiders in your home will not damage your home’s structure, the pests that they eat – including termites – will eat wood and make tunnels in your home, making the presence of house spiders an indicator of more serious threats.

Signs That There Is a Spider Infestation in your Clear Lake City Home

The most common and visible indicator of a spider infestation in your Clear Lake residence is the presence of spider webs. Be careful when dealing with spider webs. Insects trapped in the web can be a vector for disease. And avoid asymmetrical or non-geometric webs, as venomous spiders weave those webs and may bite if their webs are disturbed. Contact us at the first sign of spider webs, especially when the webs are asymmetrical.

Use caution when you deal with dark areas and small areas in your residence, as spiders favor dark, tight places to thrive. Cracks, attics, and basements are some common places where spiders will nest. You should seal cracks and keep dark areas clean to reduce the chances of spider infestations. And if sealing old cracks and holes causes new holes to appear, that is a definite sign that spiders are tunneling to gain access to your residence.

Spiders are attracted to moisture, so water leaks or weather damage can draw spiders to your residence. In addition, untreated moisture can cause other problems, such as mold, warped metal, and rotting wood. Treat any water-related or moisture-related problems as soon as they arise.

The presence of spider egg sacs is an undeniable warning sign of a spider infestation. One spider egg sac can hatch hundreds of baby spiders. Contact Gulf Coast Exterminators immediately when you spot a spider egg sac. If you are able to safely and carefully dispose of the spider egg sac, you should do so by placing it in a garbage bag, sealing the bag, and moving the bag as far away from your residence as possible. Do not squeeze the spider egg sac or apply any pressure to it, as this could cause hundreds of baby spiders to pop out of the spider egg sac.

Check your body for unexplained bite marks or similar sores, as these could be caused by spider bites. A spider hiding in your wardrobe – such as the inside of one of your shoes – could bite in response to you trying to wear the garment. Call 911 or head to the emergency room if the bite marks cause extreme pain or dramatic side-effects such as dizziness. Otherwise, call Gulf Coast Exterminators for an inspection. Until we arrive, double-check items you place on your body for any signs of lurking spiders.

How We Get Rid of Spiders in Clear Lake City Homes

When we arrive at your Clear Lake residence, our first task will be to thoroughly inspect your building. We will investigate the exterior of your building for cracks and similar openings, and we will analyze the surrounding vegetation for signs of spiders. We will also check your building’s interior to locate the entry points that spiders use to access the interior. We will often use pesticides to eliminate the spiders, but we use caution and experience to ensure that neither you nor the other building residents are threatened by the pesticides that we use. Once we have removed the spiders, we will present you with the findings of our inspections and give you advice on how to prevent future spider infestations. Often, these recommendations include trimming the plants outside of the residence, fixing cracks and any tunnels that the spiders dug, and removing spiders’ food supply by removing other insects and pests that lurk in the residence.

Why Do It Yourself Spider Control Doesn’t Work

Do-it-yourself spider control measures are temporary measures at best and a threat at worst. Attempting to move a spider outside will only result in the spider returning to your residence later, especially if other pests are present. Also, trying to move a venomous spider can lead to illness or death. The use of essential oils will, at best, inconvenience spiders, who will find ways to travel around the oil. When non-professionals use chemicals to remove pests, the chemicals can cause serious harm or illness to everyone inside the residence. Finally, do-it-yourself spider control measures focus only on visible spiders, ignoring the hundreds of spiders that may hide behind walls, underneath floors, or above ceilings.

If your Clear Lake City home shows signs of spider infestation, call Gulf Coast Exterminators as soon as possible. You should not try to tackle a spider infestation yourself. Our team will apply its decades of experience to eradicate your spider problem and give you the knowledge to prevent future spider infestations.

Spider Removal Control Company Gulf Coast Exterminators Effectively Removes Spiders in Houston

Gulf Coast Exterminators removes spiders of all types that invade your home or business effectively and cost-effectively similar to those shown in video below.

Why You Need Spider Control for your Piney Point Village Home

Spiders eat insects and other pests, so they are often seen as beneficial. However, spiders can be a threat to your Piney Point Village residence, and some species of spider can be a direct threat to you and the other residents of your building.

Many species of spiders weave webs to immobilize insects, allowing the spiders to consume their prey. However, the insects that spiders trap can carry diseases, spreading them to humans that are exposed to the trapped insect. In addition, spider webs that are near points of ignition can catch fire when the web is especially sturdy or large.

Spiders living in your garden, lawn, and foliage – such as wolf spiders – can build burrows in the soil in their attempts to establish shelter and lure prey. Whereas house spiders do not dig or burrow to gain entry, the same cannot be said for their food sources, which include wood-eating termites and tunnel-building carpenter ants. This means that the presence of spiders in your home is a sign that more damaging pests are present as well.

Whereas all spiders are venomous, most spiders do not have venom potent enough to significantly injure humans. However, there are some species – such as the black widow and the brown recluse – that can seriously injure or even kill humans with their bites. If you see such a spider in your building, do not attempt to trap or eliminate it. Call Gulf Coast Exterminators immediately so we can render your home safe from the spider threat. And call 911 or head to the nearest emergency room if a spider with potent venom bites you.

Signs That There Is a Spider Infestation in your Piney Point Village Home

The clearest sign that your Piney Point Village residence has a spider infestation is the existence of spider webs in your property’s interior or exterior. Be careful when dealing with spider webs. Insects trapped in the webs can carry diseases which they may pass on to you. Also, you should never do anything with a spider web that has a chaotic pattern or is asymmetrical. Such webs are a strong indicator of the presence of highly-venomous spiders, and disturbing their webs may provoke them into biting you. When you see spider webs on your property – especially asymmetric webs – call Gulf Coast Exterminators immediately.

Spiders prefer to reside in small, dark places. You should routinely perform visual inspections on parts of your residence that are traditionally dark, such as attics and basements. Also, be wary when dealing with cracks or similar holes, as spiders can use these openings to nest and to access your building’s interior. Spiders don’t create their own tunnels and entry points, but their nesting and activity in already-existing entry points can cause additional minor damage.

The presence of a spider egg sac is a glaring indicator of a spider infestation. Spider egg sacs can be a serious problem, as one spider egg sac can hold hundreds of spider eggs. Contact Gulf Coast Exterminators the moment you see an egg sac. And if you or someone you trust can carefully remove the spider egg sac from your premises, do so. Place the spider egg sac in a garbage bag, seal the bag, and move the bag as far away from your property as reasonably possible. Be cautious and calm if you decide to remove the spider egg sac yourself; applying pressure to a spider egg sac or squeezing it could cause hundreds of baby spiders to hatch and emerge from the spider egg sac.

How We Get Rid of Spiders in Piney Point Village Homes

After we arrive at your Piney Point Village home, our primary task will be to perform a thorough inspection of your property. We will examine the surrounding flora – such as hedges and trees – for the presence of spiders. We will also inspect the building’s exterior and interior, identifying the ways that spiders enter your building. After we conclude our analysis, we will exterminate the spiders. We use pesticides, but our experience and training guarantee that the pesticides will not be a threat to you and the other residents of your building. Once the spiders are eliminated, we will provide you with the results of our investigation; we will explain how and why the spiders accessed your property, and we will suggest measures you can take to prevent future spider infestations. Common actions that you can take include home repairs such as sealing cracks, trimming hedges and trees on your property, and having us remove other insects and pests in your home, thereby eliminating the spiders’ food supply and their motivation to intrude.

Why Do It Yourself Spider Control Doesn’t Work

Do-it-yourself spider control is a temporary measure at best and a danger at worst. If you remove a spider from your home, the spider will return, especially if your home has insects or other pests for the spider to eat. And you can be seriously injured or killed if you attempt to remove a spider with potent venom. The use of essential oils will fail since spiders will devise ways to work around the oil traps. The use of pesticides and similar chemicals without professional oversight can endanger every resident in the building – as well as the residents’ pets. Finally, do-it-yourself spider control does not address the spiders that are not in plain sight; spiders behind walls and underneath floors are largely unaffected by do-it-yourself measures.

If your Piney Point Village residence shows signs of a spider infestation, call Gulf Coast Exterminators today. Our team of dedicated professionals will remove the spiders from your building and give you the knowledge you need to postpone or entirely prevent the next spider infestation.

Can a cockroach survive after being flushed down a toilet?

Some people are flushing cockroaches down the toilet rather than stepping on them or spraying them with roach spray. They do that as some feel like it’s a humane way to kill a cockroach.

The thing is, once a roach is flushed down the toilet it is unlikely the cockroach will be killed. Why is that you ask? Well, a cockroach can "hold its breath" for 5 to 7 minutes according to a study from Australian scientists.

There are many websites stating that cockroaches can hold their breath for 40 minutes, but I could not find a study to back up that statement.

Cockroach Video: View from inside a sewer pipe while flushing a toilet

Also, cockroaches may not be in toilet water long after a flush. The toilet piping is only full of water inside the toilet bowl, once flushed and the water gets past the bend in the pipe there is air and more.

This makes the roach unlikely to drown which enable them to grab a foothold and just climb back up your toilet or enter the sewage system where there is plenty of oxygen. So if you think you when you flush a cockroach down toilet it’ll kill it, think again.

How do cockroaches breathe?

Now if Cockroaches can hold their breath when flushed in a toilet, you may wonder how do roaches breathe? Like other insects, cockroaches breathe through a system of tubes called tracheae which are attached to openings called spiracles on their body. When the carbon dioxide level in a roach raises high enough, valves on the spiracles open and carbon dioxide diffuses out and oxygen diffuses in.

Can Cockroaches Swim?

Cockroaches can indeed swim, but you won’t catch them doing the backstroke. Cockroaches have really light bodies, so instead of swimming they just float on water.

While it’s not common for roaches to swim through toilet drains to enter homes, it does happen. Roaches simply close their spiracles so that no water can enter their bodies, and then travel up the drain floating through the water.

How long can a cockroach live without water?

Cockroaches are reported by many to live without water for 7 days (one week) on average as they are cold blooded which allows them to go for this period of time without finding water to drink.

Studies actually show that the German cockroach and American Cockroach can live much longer than a week without water. A German cockroach can live up to 20.1 days without food or water and an American cockroach can live 41.7 days without food or water.

More details about this is below.

How long can a German cockroach live without water?

According to Walter Ebeling of UC Riverside Entomology, newly emerged adult females of the German cockroach, Blattella germanica, have been found to live at 27°C (81°F) and 36 to 40% relative humidity for an average of:

  • 20.1 days without food or water
  • 14.7 days with dry food (dog biscuits) and no water
  • 82 days with both food and water

How long can an American cockroach live without water?

Walter Ebeling of UC Riverside Entomology, also shared that the American cockroach, Periplaneta americana, have been found to live at 27°C (81°F) and 36 to 40% relative humidity for an average of:

  • 41.7 days without food or water
  • 40.1 days with dry food (dog biscuits) and no water
  • 190 days with both food and water

As you can see, the German and American cockroach survives much longer than a week without water which is fascinating!

How Fast Can Cockroaches Run?

If you’ve had experience with cockroaches, you know how fast they can be when running away from us. But how fast can they run? Cockroaches can run about three miles per hour.

The American cockroach, which is popular in Houston, has been clocked running 59 inches per second, which is precisely 3.4 miles per hour. At 50 body lengths per second, this roach is about three times the speed of a cheetah!

How Long Can A Cockroach Live Without Its Head?

When a creatures head is cut off, that’s usually a sign of immediate death. With cockroaches, not so much as they can live without their head for a minimum of one week and up to 40 days depending on the cockroach and the conditions!

Cockroach Video: Top 5 Largest Cockroach Infestations

Now you may be asking yourself, how is that? Well, cockroaches have an open circulatory system and are able to breathe out little openings at each of their body segments.

The only reason they will die usually within a week or up to 40 days depending on the cockroach is due to the fact they will die of thirst. As we shared above, a cockroach can live without water for quite some time.

Physiologist and biochemist Joseph Kunkel at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, who studies cockroach development, explains how a cockroach can live without its head along with the estimated time.

To summarize, he states that humans breathe through our mouth or nose and the breathing rhythm is controlled in our brain. Cutting off a human head would interfere definitely interfere with breathing.

Cockroaches on the other hand breathe through spiracles which are in each body segment and they don’t have blood to oxygen to tissues. The spiracles deliver air to each cell of a cockroach’s body through a set of tubes called tracheae. The cockroaches’ brain does not control the breathing through the spiracles.

Cockroaches do not have blood pressure the way a human does and so cutting off the head does not lead to uncontrolled bleeding.

Lastly, the cockroach is a poikilotherm or cold blooded animal. They need much less food and a one day meal would be enough to last them a whole month as long as they were not extremely active burning up lots of energy.

Without a head, the cockroach would just sit around not doing much. So there you have it, you now know how long a cockroach can live without its head.

Can cockroaches come up through toilets?

Cockroaches can make their way through pipes that lead from your sewage system to appear in your toilet. This happens when the toilet bowl environment is suitable for cockroaches to come up through.

Cockroach Video: Cockroaches coming up from sewer through toilet

A suitable environment for a cockroach to crawl up and come through your toilet is if the toilet is broken. A broken toilet may not have water in the bowl so cockroaches can easily crawl up through the pipes. Cockroaches can also crawl inside a toilet bowl if the lid is up and then when crawl out coming up through your toilet.

How long can a cockroach live?

The German Cockroach and American Cockroach are the two species most common out of all in the Houston, Texas area and they live about 200 days for the German cockroach and one year on average for the American Cockroach.

How long can a German cockroach live?

German cockroaches from egg to adult can live from 54 to 215 days, with an average of approximately 100 days to live. This is what Michigan State University states according to what they shared from the National Pest Management Association Inc.

How long can an American cockroach live?

American Cockroaches from egg to adult can live about 1000 days (600 days from egg to adult & 400 additional days as an adult) which averages to about 2.5 years. This is what the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) states.

Who are they? They are a federal-state-county partnership dedicated to developing knowledge in agriculture, human and natural resources, and the life sciences, and enhancing and sustaining the quality of human life by making that information accessible.

Keep in mind there are a lot of things which can determine the lifespan of cockroaches such as access to food, water and their environment.

How long can cockroaches live without air?

About 40 minutes is how long cockroaches can go without breathing air. Australian scientists suggest from their research that roaches hold their breath to prevent water loss.

Animal physiologist Dr Craig White of the University of Queensland in Brisbane Australia states cockroaches can hold their breath for five to seven minutes at a time to prevent water loss. This prevents the cockroach from drying out and dying. Dr White says the findings could explain how some cockroaches develop resistance to pesticides as well. The cockroach’s breath-holding could be a resistance mechanism protecting them from pesticides.

Cockroaches have a very efficient breathing system that uses air filled tubes, called trachea, to deliver oxygen directly to cells.

"The problem with having this tracheal system that delivers oxygen directly to the cells is that it also carries water vapor out of the cells," says Dr. White.

"The idea here is they close their spiracles when they have low requirement for oxygen, so then they don’t let the water out."

One reason for this could be is that Cockroaches are trying to stop too much oxygen from entering their body, too much oxygen can be toxic.

Pricey car! Anyway, upon arrival we inspected the damage and determined the culprit was probably a nesting female raccoon. Our client thought it was rodents; we would hate to run into a rat that could do that kind of damage.

Types of Termites in Houston That Get into Homes

There are over 2,000 known species of termites.

VIDEO: Termite Information and Facts

Pest Control Houston Gulf Coast Exterminators shares invaluable information on termites in the video below.

Of those 2,000, there are three major types – the subterranean termite, the drywood termite and the dampwood termite. The most invasive of these groups are the Eastern subterranean termite, Southeast drywood termite and Pacific dampwood termite.

Subterranean termites tend to be the most destructive. Dampwood termites, on the other hand, tend to leave homes alone, unless there is a substantial amount of water.

How Houston Subterranean Termites Get in Your Houston Home

Subterranean termites build their colonies underground. From their colony, they create tunnels that lead up to, and even into, your home.

They tend to enter from the ground level, or just below. However, they can also construct mud tubes along the exterior walls of your home in order to get in.

Mud tubes allow for their tunnels to maintain an ideal environment, warm and humid, that shelter the termites from the outside elements.

Subterranean termites mainly enter your home through wood to ground contact.

This could be any number of areas, such as a doorframe, steps to a deck or porch, deck beams or support beams of any kind. But this is not the only way that they can get in.

Subterranean termites can often enter through cracks in your foundation, or even cracks in brick (which is why brick homes, or homes of other materials that are not wood-based, are just as much at risk for infestation). Because termites are so small, they can make their way in through the tiniest of cracks, which can often go unnoticed.

At Pest Control Houston Gulf Coast Exterminators, our termite control and prevention of subterranean termites focuses mainly upon areas that could lead to potential trouble, and addressing them appropriately. This could be anything, such as water pooling around your foundation, creating the moisture that these termites crave.

During a termite inspection, we monitor these trouble spots for signs of activity. Termite treatment may also include the use of termite monitoring stations, which can confirm termite activity and be used to treat the infestation, spraying a liquid treatment around your home or even treating the wood directly.

How Houston Drywood Termites Get in Your Houston Home

Drywood termites infest your home a little bit differently than subterranean termites. A drywood termite infestation generally begins when the termites swarm in the spring. Once the spring arrives, some of the workers of a colony shed their skin and enter an alate stage.

In this stage, they develop wings. The alate termites then leave their current colony to go off in search of a mate, and a new home.

Once they have found both, they shed their wings and become the king and queen, and start their own, brand new colony. It only takes a couple of years to grow a colony large enough to do serious damage to your Houston home.

Because the alate termites fly, they can enter your home on any level. They can come in through doors, windows, or even attic vents.

If there are cracks or holes in your roof, they will find them. At the same time, they can enter through foundation cracks or holes in the brick.

Because of this reason, prevention for termites in your Houston home can be a bit more difficult. You need to perform regular maintenance to the wood of your home, making sure that is in good condition.

Along with regular home maintenance, we can help you to be proactive in your termite control and prevention efforts with termite treatment around your home. This can include liquid soil treatments as well as wood treatments.

With our highly-trained experts, we can help you to defend your home from an expensive termite infestation.

What are Termites?

Termites are destructive little insects. Every year, they cause millions of dollars’ worth of damage throughout the United States.

Unfortunately, because termites work inside the walls of your home, it can be difficult to know that they are there until it is too late. Understanding how you get termites in your Houston home in the first place is essential to their prevention.

Pest Control Houston Gulf Coast Exterminators is Houston’s answer to termite infestations. Not only can we help you with your termite control and termite treatment needs, we can also help you to understand how termites get into your home, and help you to prevent them from getting in.

Termites are incredibly small insects, ranging between ¼ to ½ inches in size. They have soft bodies that vary in color from white to light brown, and straight antennae.

Termites are social insects, living in colonies numbering well into the thousands. The colony is divided into three classes – the king and queen, soldiers and workers.

The king and queen are the highest of the social order, and are responsible for populating the colony. Soldiers defend the colony from attackers.

Workers are the largest group, and have the biggest workload. They build tunnels, feed the colony and take care of the eggs.

Houston Termite Habitat

Termites require food, water and shelter in order to survive. Their food of choice is cellulose, which is derived from plants, mainly wood.

Termites tend to feast on dead plants and trees, but they will eat other materials as well, such as drywall or plastics. They are frequently referred to as the "silent destroyer," because they can eat their way through your walls, floorboards and any other wooden structures in your home entirely undetected, until it is too late

Termites can mainly be found in dead or dying trees, lumber or logs left outdoors, underground and, of course, in the home. However, just because your home’s exterior is made of brick, or some other material that is not wood, does not mean that you are immune to a termite infestation. Subterranean termites can be found all throughout the United States, including Texas.

They need to have contact with the ground in order to survive. In fact, their colonies are usually located underground, with tunnels leading up to, and into, their food source (which could very well be your home!).

Drywood termites, as well as dampwood termites, are more common in the southern states. Drywood termites don’t require any contact with the ground, and are able to get all of the moisture they need from their food.

They often build their colonies right into the wood of your home. In some instances, there may be multiple colonies in one structure.

Dampwood termites, on the other hand, require a significant amount of moisture in order to survive. They prefer dead and decaying wood, such as tree stumps and limbs.

They are rarely found in the home, unless you are experiencing a plumbing leak or have suffered a flood and have lingering water.
