Region: Commonly found East of the Mississippi River from Nova Scotia to Georgia. This ant has not been documented in Texas.
Threat Risk: No stinger is present. This ant will inject Fomic Acid into any vegetation near the mound including any small tree casting a shadow on the mound, The bite can be painful and can be a threat to children and pets.
