- Shape: 2 node segments, uneven thorax with no spines
- Size: 1/8" – 1/4" (3.5 – 6.5mm)
- Antennae: Yes; 12 segmented antennae
- Region: Commonly found East of the Mississippi River from Nova Scotia to Georgia. This ant has not been documented in Texas.
- Threat Risk: No stinger is present. This ant will inject Fomic Acid into any vegetation near the mound including any small tree casting a shadow on the mound, The bite can be painful and can be a threat to children and pets.
