German Cockroach

German Cockroach

German Cockroach

SIZE: 1/2″ to 5/8″ Long

COLOR: Light Brown to Tan except for 2 distinct Dark Brown to Black bars or stripes on the pronotal shield. Most people would identify the pronotal shield as the head but upon closer examination the head is revealed to be forward of this shield.

NESTING: The German Cockroach has proven to be very resilient when it comes to nesting sites. Given the opportunity it will seek out a warm humid environment within a structure. While it can survive outdoors it’s preferred habitat is near humans. Within a home the most likely nesting sites will be in a kitchen or bathroom near a water source. Infestations will generally be heaviest near an abundance of food.

FOODS: They will consume most anything to stay alive. They will eat all of what you eat and a lot of what you won’t. This will include but is not limited to paper products, glue, hair, dried skin, soap, toothpaste, feces and dried urine.

STRUCTURAL INVASION: German Cockroaches usually enter a building via human transport. They can come home in your grocery bags, in a box of cereal, grits, oatmeal, pancake mix, cornmeal, soda or beer boxes/packs, paper towels, toilet paper and on and on and on. The list is endless. If you purchase things away from your home and transport that product into your home, the chances are good that at some point you will introduce German Cockroaches into your living environment. It doesn’t matter how clean you are or how expensive the home is – they don’t care! Your level of housekeeping has little impact on their survival.

CONTROL: The only way to rid your home of German Cockroaches is to hire a professional. You will not kill off this roach on your own, period. It will take a trained professional to introduce a combination of contact pesticides, slow acting baits and residual dusts where the infestation sites occur in your home or business. Without the use of IGR’s (insect growth regulators) long term control and eventual eradication efforts are futile.

Don’t use a fogging material as you will not kill the roaches and you run the risk of respiratory complications as well as the possibility of explosion and fire. There are documented cases annually of people becoming frustrated over German Roaches and using more foggers than the label calls for. In addition to the above listed risks you will simply drive the roaches deep into the walls and make the work more difficult when your pest control professional arrives.
